SCORES of fund-raisers have trekked through the night in Meirionnydd.
Last Saturday evening, 8 July, almost 80 brave souls battled their way from Llanuwchllyn up Bwlch y Groes pass for a ‘moonwalk’ in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity.
The circular 26-mile route, which started and ended at the Eagles pub in Llanuwchllyn, started at 10pm and finished approximately 10 hours later.
The moonwalk was organised by Sion Llewelyn, the pharmacist at Rowlands the chemist in Bala, and has already raised well over £1,500.
One of the hikers spoke about their experiences climbing up one of Wales’ highest public road mountain passes, Bwlch y Groes, and the general ambience of nocturnal walking: “Tea and refreshments were offered in the dark hours at the Bistro, then as we continued down towards Llanwddyn, headlamps could be seen stretched out along the road as the faster walkers raced ahead.
“The glow of the full moon on the lake was a treat, and long shadows cast along the road.
“As dawn broke the birds sung their morning song and we continued up the Hirnant pass where more refreshments were offered and a welcome break.
“It was then downhill all the way with the final stop in Rhosygwaliau before our sore feet and legs made their way through Llangower to the Eagles Inn, Llanuwchllyn where a first class breakfast was served.
“A night to remember, we wish to offer our warmest support to all brain tumour sufferers and their families.
“The fund will be kept open until the end of July, if anyone wishes to contribute. Thank you all for your donations.”
