THE head of one of North Wales’ oldest families has passed away after a long illness.
Robin Price, who has presided over the Rhiwlas estate in Bala since 1974, died on Sunday at the age of 69.
His son, Richard, will now take full ownership of the prominent estate after returning to help his father look after the 16,500 acres of land around 10 years ago.
Speaking of his late father, Richard told the Cambrian News: “He always loved the land around Bala, he was very keen on it.
“He was obviously very proud to be a part of the town and surrounding area.
“Our family have roots in the area which date back to the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.
“Henry VII gifted the land to my ancestors following his victory and we’ve seen 15 generations grow up here.”
Since returning to the area, Richard has put his own imprint on the estate, building a hydro scheme and establishing a new dairy herd.
He said his father had always been supportive and took great pride in the new developments.
“He was very proud of the relationship he managed to cultivate with his tenants,” added Richard.
“I was very lucky to inherit that relationship – it’s made my job much easier.”
Mr Price is survived by wife Diana and three children, Annabel, Richard and Charlotte.
