THE HEADMASTER of St Padarn’s Primary School in Aberystwyth has welcomed a glowing Estyn inspection report.
Inspectors initially visited the school in June 2014 and found that the performance and prospects for improvement were just ‘adequate’, the second lowest rung on the inspectors’ ranking ladder.
However, when Inspectors re-visited the 131-pupil school on Llanbadarn Road in October, they found that “leadership systems and processes now have a direct and positive impact on pupils’ standards and the quality of teaching.”
Inspectors left a list of recommendations for the school to address following the 2014 inspection, including; improving pupils’ numeracy, ICT skills and standards of Welsh, as well as the quality of teaching and the planning of lessons.
However, the latest report highlights the very good progress made in addressing these recommendations.
Inspectors reported that “since the core inspection, the school has reviewed the provision for numeracy and ICT effectively.”
They found that pupils’ progress in Welsh had also accelerated as “school leaders have implemented a new scheme of work for Welsh, and this is having a positive impact on pupils’ standards and their enjoyment of Welsh lessons.”See this week's south editions for the full story, in shops and online tomorrow
