HEALTH chiefs are urging the Welsh public to not break lockdown rules ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with France that could see Wales secure a Grand Slam.
Wales take on France in Paris at 8pm this evening as they aim to secure a clean sweep in this year’s Six Nations.
A feat that in normal times would see busy pubs and bars across the country, this year’s six nations is different for obvious reasons and Public Health Wales don’t want to lose all the good work that has been done up until now fighting Covid-19.
Dr Christopher Williams, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “This weekend we would like to encourage the public in Wales to enjoy sporting events, such as the Six Nations, with members of our own households only, and to avoid meeting others.
“While the level of infection across Wales has declined in recent weeks, there are still several areas which have substantially higher rates.
“It is vitally important that we don’t lose the substantial gains that have been made, and therefore I would like to send a clear message to everyone that coronavirus hasn’t gone away and there are still a large number of people who have not been vaccinated.
"In order to protect everyone, including the most vulnerable, everyone must stick to the rules.
“Welsh Government restrictions state that you should not go into any other household or mix with other people who you don’t live with.
Data released by Public Health Wales shows that six new deaths have been recorded in Wales today, taking the total to 5,482.
208 new cases have been recorded nationwide with the rate of infection of across Wales standing at 42 cases per 100,000.
Ceredigion has recorded one new case today, while Carmarthenshire has recorded six cases and Pembrokeshire, eight.
Gwynedd has recorded seven cases and Powys has recorded three.
