A NEW overnight hub at Ysbyty Alltwen will ensure the community has access to non-urgent care 24 hours a day.

The Minor Injuries Unit at the Tremadog hospital will offer a 24-hour service with support from the GP Out of Hours Service and the District Nursing team.

Chris Williams, clinical skills facilitator and advanced nurse practitioner at Ysbyty Alltwen’s Minor Injuries Unit, said: “We are really looking forward to offering a 24-hour service within the Minor Injuries Unit here at Alltwen.

“We have been working with Welsh Ambulance Service to ensure over the next two months that we are utilising this hub so that patients don’t always need to go to Ysbyty Gwynedd for their treatment.

“Having the GP Out of Hours Service and the District Nurses here is also a great benefit which means that we can treat a number of conditions in one place.”

Local MP Liz Saville Roberts welcomed the news, saying: “I warmly welcome the expansion of clinical services at Ysbyty Alltwen.

“I understand 24-hour availability of Alltwen’s unit is for a trial period until the end of March, and has been specially put in place to take pressure off Ysbyty Gwynedd during the challenging winter months.’

‘The summer season is also particularly busy in the area, so I sincerely hope the health board will decide to keep this unit open for 24 hours on a permanent basis, and take every step to make sure everyone is aware of the service.”
