A DEFIBRILLATOR has been installed at a pharmacy in Abersoch.
The Fferyllfa H H Parry Pharmacy, on the High Street, is playing its part in Calon Defibrillators campaign, ensuring nobody in Wales is ever further than 100 metres away from a defibrillator.
Pharmacy manager Arfon Bebb said: “We took Abersoch pharmacy over in April.
“We have others in the area and two of those have defibrillators on site.
“Our pharmacy in Blaenau Ffestiniog has one located close by. It is an essential piece of kit, which is needed to save lives.
“As part of our work as pharmacists, we have training in resuscitation. This is in the event of someone suffering an anaphylactic reaction to a vaccination, which is one in a million chance.
“Everyone who gives a vaccination needs this skill.”
Arfon added: “We felt it was important to have these piece of kit not just for the pharmacy, but also for the community to use.
“This is why the defibrillator is located on the outside of the building. This way, people can get to the equipment and then can be talked through how to use it by paramedics.
“These are clever machines. They talk you through how to use them and assess whether a shock needs to be administered.”
