A CARDIGAN vaccine centre is “fully operational”, Ceredigion MS Elin Jones has said, as Hywel Dda Health Board updates on the vaccine rollout in the county.

Ms Jones said the health board had told her that the new Oxford vaccine will be rolled out at vaccine centres in January – with centres set to be established in Aberystwyth as well as Cardigan.

The Cambrian News reported on Tuesday how Hywel Dda Health Board has launched a recruitment drive to hire immunisation administrators at vaccination centres in Aberystwyth and Cardigan.

Specific locations have not yet been confirmed, but the NHS is looking to employ people in early January as the vaccine rollout gets underway.

“I know many of you are concerned about vaccine roll-out locally and whether we are getting our fair share in west Wales,” Elin Jones said in a Facebook post.

“I had it confirmed by Hywel Dda Health Board this morning [Wednesday] that just under 6,000 have been vaccinated.

“That’s 1.5 per cent of our population.

“In England on the weekend, 500,000 had been vaccinated.

“That’s 0.9 per cent, so we’re doing well here.

“Priority at the moment here is NHS and care workers.

“Both Glangwili and Cardigan are now fully operational as vaccine centres.

“Hopefully with approval, the Oxford vaccine will be rolled out of other centres early in January.”

No response has yet been received from Hywel Dda to questions from the Cambrian News.
