THE campaign group formed to fight to save the former Bodlondeb care home has vowed to battle on to ensure there are adequate care facilities in north Ceredigion.

The Save Bodlondeb group has continued to meet following the council’s controversial decision to close the home and put the site up for sale, with chair Mark Williams, the former Ceredigion MP, insisting that the group, now called the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care, will continue to put pressure on Ceredigion Council about the provision of care services.

At a special ‘thank you’ event for supporters held at Plas Antaron, Mr Williams said there were still many questions about the future of services and the future of the Bodlondeb site that needed answers.

He said: “While we lost the immediate battle to retain the excellent facility at Bodlondeb, this campaign galvanised public option, and has revealed fundamental weaknesses in the county council’s approach. We were promised that the council would be working with Hywel Dda to provide a facility in the Aberystwyth area. We have heard little on that.

“We will continue to be a voice for those committed to proper provision of adult residential care. It is simply too important a cause to fade away.”

Forum secretary Pat Bates, a member of the Ceredigion committee of the Hywel Dda Community Health Council, said: “In all my years in Aberystwyth I have never known such anger being expressed by residents on any action as on the closure of Bodlondeb, with no alternative in its place. Even at this stage, why cannot the council obtain funding for refurbishment.”
