THE FORMER Bodlondeb care home in Penparcau has been sold subject to contract, the Cambrian News can reveal.

There was an outcry when the home closed in January 2018. It was put up for sale with a price tag of £395,000.

The property has now been sold subject to contract, according to the council’s website, but it is unclear who has bought the home and for what purpose.

Ceredigion County Council said it could not find the necessary funding to bring the home up to standard and efforts to find a private company to take it over and run it as a specialist nursing home failed.

Cabinet members suggested that if proposals to operate the home as an Elderly Mentally Infirm home or nursing home were put forward, the price may be lower.

Mark Williams, the chair of the Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care, said: “The Save Bodlondeb Campaign and now the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care was committed to a council-run residential home.

“We remain committed to that principle, and believe Ceredigion council is neglectful of its responsibilities and is failing to prepare for the demographic time bomb.”
