The sale of Aberystwyth’s Bodlondeb care home has still not been completed, and it has been claimed that a prospective buyer is struggling to finalise a deal with Ceredigion County Council.
Care campaigner George Holloway said he has been in discussions with the prospective buyer of Bodlondeb, which closed two years ago.
The home in Penparcau was said to be “sold subject to contract” back in January after it was put up for sale with a price tag of £395,000.
But nearly a year on, the sale has not been completed.
It is understood that the prospective buyer, who has asked not to be named, wants to provide elderly mentally infirm nursing care after carrying out renovation work.
But Mr Holloway said those plans are being held up over a costings agreement with the council, leading to concerns the deal may not proceed.
He said: “The prospective buyer’s initial tender for Bodlondeb was declined, but they were subsequently asked by the council in January 2018 to resubmit and this time the offer was accepted.
“The prospective buyer remains £200,000 short of funding and asked for a deferral of the payment for six to eight months, but this was not acceptable to the council.
“This is despite the fact that when Phase One of the project is running, the bank are willing to forward the £200,000 shortfall.”
It is believed that councillors are due to discuss the situation surrounding the sale of Bodlondeb, but no details about any discussion amongst councillors has been made public.
