A TYWYN breastfeeding support group has held a special event to raise money to provide training to help other mothers in the area.

Clwb Llaeth Mam held the coffee and craft afternoon at Tywyn’s Baptist Church as part of the group’s fundraising to train members to support other mothers.

Members of Clwb Llaeth Mam sold homemade cakes and craft items with the money raised paying for members to receive training from the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers, a voluntary organisation which provides training in how to offer support to other mothers with breastfeeding.

Chloe Angood, the leader of Clwb Llaeth Mam, said: “We have a vibrant group here in Tywyn of mums who passionately want to help other mums and babies to breastfeed. These mums have put so much effort into raising money to be trained and will go on to be a great help to others. Women often struggle to breastfeed in isolation and professional support is only available in this area by referral, and then only many miles away.

“Mothers supporting other mothers to breastfeed is a great way to help those who want to have a successful breastfeeding relationship with their babies.

“Research shows that peer support is an important factor in the successful initiation and continuation of breastfeeding in Wales.”

The group meet on Thursday afternoons at 1.30pm at Tywyn Health Centre and has a Facebook page.
