FOURTEEN members of Bronglais Hospital’s pharmacy department are hoping to raise £1,500 for Blood Bikes Wales by walking over 30 miles along the coastal path between Llangrannog and Aberystwyth.
Sean Thomas, one of the members of the fundraising team, said they were doing the walk on 29 and 30 September to help keep the “vital” service offered by Blood Bikes Wales going.
The colleagues are hoping to raise £1,500 and have set up a Just Giving page, with Sean saying that the service provided by Blood Bikes Wales was hugely important and helpful to the NHS.
He said: “We decided to do the fundraiser for Blood Bikes because they’re a vital out-of-hours service transporting blood, plasma and vital medicines between hospitals that we as a department use regularly.
“This is a huge benefit to the NHS as it prevents the need to use ambulances or expensive taxis to transport these items. They save the NHS £5 for every pound that is raised.
“The Blood Bikes riders and controllers are extremely passionate and humble people and it’s an absolute pleasure to help keep this vital service going.”
The pharmacy team that will take on the fundraising challenge is Sean, Kirsty Dennett, Delun Davies, Richard Williams, Zoe Kennerley, Llinos Strange, Carys Hughes, Gwenan Jones, Sian Hughes, Claire Jones, Delyth Bailey, Rachel Evans, Angharad Davies and Rhian Jones.
