A young couple devastated at losing their newborn daughter have set up a fund to provide special cots which help bereaved parents to cherish their lost babies.

Gareth Morgan-Isaac and Clare Last raised over £8,000 by trekking up Snowdon last summer, to buy cuddle cots.

The cots are designed to enable those whose newborn babies have died to bring them home from hospital for a couple of days.

“The cots give parents just that little extra bit of time at home with the baby they’ve lost,” Gareth, 22, of Pontfaen, told the Cambrian News.

“While we hope no-one has to go through what Clare and I did it’ll be nice for people to know that these cots are available, if needed.

“Losing a baby is not something people talk about every day, but we feel it’s important to raise awareness about something that unfortunately does happen and the effect it can have.”

Gareth and Clare, who launched the campaign in memory of their little daughter, Mari-Leisa, who died in July last year, are donating a cot to Cenfil Reeves Funeral Directors in Talgarreg and also plan to provide another at the Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

Iona Reeves, a member of the group who took part in the sponsored trek up Snowdon, said the way a cuddle cot had helped Gareth and Clare was "totally amazing".
