Seven Covid-19-related deaths have been recorded across Wales today – with four in the Hywel Dda Health Board region.

A total of 2,492 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Wales today, according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

27 of those cases have been recorded in Ceredigion, with Carmarthenshire recording 104 new cases and Pembrokeshire, 66.

Powys has recorded 80 new cases today with Gwynedd recording 74.

Seven deaths have been recorded across Wales today, taking the total number of suspected Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic to 6,184.

Four of the deaths recorded today have been in the Hywel Dda Health Board region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, taking the total number of deaths to 572.

No deaths have been recorded in the north Wales region of Betsi Cadwaldar or in Powys, with their total deaths remaining at 1,074 and 77 respectively.

The latest figures come as England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Jonathan Van-Tam, warned that Covid makes Christmas and the winter months potentially ‘problematic’.

Asked on BBC Breakfast how do we prevent a Christmas lockdown, Prof Van-Tam said: “Christmas and indeed all of the darker winter months are potentially going to be problematic.”

He called on people to get their booster jabs and called for people to be cautious in the coming months.
