The Covid-19 infection rate across Wales continues to drop as 23 more deaths are recorded today across the country.

A total of 872 new coronavirus cases have been identified over the past 24 hours in Wales, according to the latest data released this lunchtime by Public Health Wales.

Official statistics also show that 23 people with Covid-19 have died, taking the total since the pandemic began to 4,553 in Wales.

The rate of infection across Wales now stands at 231 cases per 100,000 and appears to be on a downward trend day on day.

Carmarthenshire recorded 58 cases while Pembrokeshire logged 24 and Ceredigion just four new cases, the lowest daily figure in Wales.

The latest seven-day figures, which cover the 14 to 20 January period, show that Ceredigion has the lowest rate of infection in Wales with 129.3 cases per 100,000 population, having recorded 94 new cases over that time period.

Carmarthenshire on the other hand has a rate of infection of 224.6 per 100,000 with 424 cases recorded over that seven-day period.
