WALES has recorded more than 10,000 new cases of coronavirus today along with 11 deaths.
A total of 10,393 new cases have been recorded across Wales over a 24 hour period with the rate of infection across the country currently standing at 1,190.2 cases per 100,000 people.
Gwynedd has recorded 316 new cases today with Carmarthenshire recording 476, Pembrokeshire, 177 and Powys, 296.
Ceredigion has recorded 135 new cases today.
The rate of infection in north and mid Ceredigion is currently higher than the national average.
Aberystwyth north currently has the highest rate of infection in the county according to rolling seven-day data which covers a period between 20-26 December, where the rate is 1,754.4 cases per 100,000.
It is closely followed by Aberaeron and Llanrhystud which has a rate of 1,719.0 per 100,000.
The rate is also higher than the national average in Borth and Bontgoch (1,599.5) and the Rheidol, Ystwyth and Caron (1,559.0) region.
Barmouth and Dolgellau in Gwynedd has the second highest rate of infection in the county, behind Bethel and Llanrug, with a rate of 1,737.7 cases per 100,000.
Cases in Machynlleth and Llanidloes are in line with the national average with north Carmarthenshire being relatively low.
Hywel Dda Health Board, which covers Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, has recorded four deaths today, taking its total number of suspected Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic to 632.
Betsi Cadwaldr Health Board in north Wales has also recorded four deaths today, taking its total 1,132 deaths since March 2020.
No new deaths have been recorded in the Powys Health Board region, with its total remaining at 86.
In total, 11 new deaths have been recorded today, taking Wales’ total number of Covid-19 related fatalities to 6,567.
All health boards in Wales have confirmed today (31 December) that they have offered a booster vaccination appointment to all eligible adults.
Offers have been made to anyone eligible through a range of methods including letters, texts, online booking and walk-in options.
More than 1.5 million boosters have been given to date, with 81 per cent of over 50s receiving the booster dose.
Around 80 per cent of people aged 12 and above are currently eligible for the booster. Of those, 71 per cent of people have already had their booster.
Health Minister Eluned Morgan said: “The response from the public has been outstanding and we want to thank everyone who kept their appointment and accepted the offer of their booster.
“A huge thank you also goes our NHS Wales teams, their partner organisations and all volunteers who have worked tirelessly through such a busy time to deliver this monumental task.
“Over the Christmas period we were pleased to see an increase in people coming forward to receive their first and second doses of the vaccine. Thank you to everyone who is still coming forward to get vaccinated.
“If you have yet to take up the offer, make getting your booster a new year’s resolution. Every vaccine given helps to Keep Wales Safe.”
