NEARLY 6,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Wales today as tests prove difficult to come by.
Across Wales, 5,929 new cases have been recorded today along with two deaths with the national rate of infection now standing at 1,079.3 cases per 100,000 population.
Ceredigion has recorded 69 new cases today – which is the lowest daily total for any local authority in Wales.
Gwynedd has recorded 227 new cases today with 168 being recorded in Carmarthenshire and 92 in Pembrokeshire.
Powys has recorded 150 new cases today.
Health chiefs in Ceredigion have today repeated concerns over the alarming rate that Covid-19 is spreading through the county.
A Ceredigion council spokesperson said: “The number of Covid-19 cases in Ceredigion continue to increase at an alarming rate and have seen the highest rate of cases in Ceredigion since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The number of cases in Ceredigion is now at 1,163.8 per 100,000 of the population with 846 cases in the last 7 days. Ceredigion has seen the largest increase across Wales in the last week.
“If you are a positive case, please ensure that you continue to self-isolate for 10 days and that you respond to a call or text from the contact tracers.
“By responding and identifying your contacts, you will help stop the transmission of Covid-19 in our communities.
“Also, please take up the opportunity of getting vaccinated – it is never too late to get your first, second or booster vaccine.”
Two new deaths have been recorded across Wales today, taking the total since the start of the pandemic to 6,553.
No new deaths have been recorded in the Hywel Dda Health Board region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with the region’s total remaining at 628.
No new deaths have been recorded either in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board region of north Wales, or Powys with their totals standing at 1,128 and 86 respectively.
