OVER 200 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Gwynedd today – with nearby Ceredigion recording less than 30.
The latest figures released this lunch time by Public Health Wales show that a total of 2,791 new cases have been recorded across Wales with the national rate of infection standing at 464.5 cases per 100,000 population.
Gwynedd has recorded 203 new cases today and over the past seven days, since last Friday, has recorded a total of 1,155 new cases of coronavirus.
This leaves Gwynedd with the highest rate of infection for any county in Wales, currently standing at 837.3 cases per 100,000 population.
It’s a different tale in nearby Ceredigion however, where 27 cases have been recorded today, taking its seven day total since last Friday to 181 cases.
The county has the lowest rate of infection in Wales, standing at 220.1, less than half the national average.
Powys has recorded 112 new cases today, taking its total since Friday to 608 and having a rate slightly below the national average at 450.8 cases per 100,000.
Carmarthenshire has recorded 140 cases today, taking it to 801 for the week and having a rate of 440.2.
Pembrokeshire has recorded 160 new cases today, with 712 over the last seven days and a rate of 529.3 – slightly above the national average.
Eight Covid-19 deaths have been recorded across Wales today, but none in the Hywel Dda, Betsi Cadwaladr or Powys health board regions.
The total number of Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, remains at 611.
1,102 deaths have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of north Wales and 83 in Powys.
A total of 6,420 suspected Covid-19 deaths have been recorded across Wales since March 2020.
