HEALTH and council chiefs have thrashed out a deal that will see a block of beds booked at Aberystwyth’s Bodlondeb care home when it’s taken over by a new provider.

Fears that plans for a block of beds to be commissioned to provide EMI nursing care had fallen through were sparked after Ceredigion Cabinet members saw a report into a tender for the home was withdrawn at the last minute.

A council report warned that the health board had cast doubt over whether it would agree to commission beds.

However, the health board has now committed to having two EMI nursing beds if a suitable provider agrees to take over the home, with another block of eight beds proposed which would be allocated in agreement between the council, health board and whoever takes over the home.

Some of those beds would be used for current Bodlondeb residents, who council chiefs have said will not have to leave.

A statement presented to the council’s Cabinet at the last minute on Tuesday, 5 April, said: “Officers from the county council and health board have had very positive discussions around the future development of dementia services, linked to the future provision at Bodlondeb.

“The health board is committed to developing community services, expanding and delivering new ways of working within the community, and also fully acknowledges a need for high end specialist nursing provision.
