THE ‘INSPIRATIONAL’ head of the x-ray department at Bronglais Hospital has been named the Welsh Radiographer of the Year.

Marie Hatfield, who is due to retire this month after 36 years at the Aberystwyth hospital, was honoured at an awards ceremony held by the Society of Radiographers at the House of Commons last month.

Marie, the lead practitioner in ultrasound at Bronglais, has been a radiographer for more than 35 years.

Kirsty Rees, who works alongside Marie at Bronglais Hospital said that Marie “has spent her entire professional career dedicated to the radiology department at Bronglais Hospital” and was “very humble”.

“She has been involved in many changes in providing better care and services for the people within this local community,” Kirsty said.

“The enormity of Marie’s workload cannot be overstated. Nevertheless, she always remains enthusiastic and diligent.

“She is the first in work and the last to leave.

“She successfully juggles maintaining excellent service provision with caring for the health and well being of her staff.

“She constantly puts the requirements of her team before her own.

“She genuinely cares about the personal development of her colleagues and does everything possible to support their specific needs."
