A LIFE-SAVING piece of equipment has been unveiled by a well-known TV presenter on the same site he lost a “dear friend” to a heart attack.

The Dyfi Osprey Project, near Machynlleth, has taken delivery of their latest piece of medical kit - a defibrillator.

The new defibrillator was supplied and installed by the Heart Charity for Wales and a new ‘rapid-response’ bicycle was also donated by Summit Cycles of Aberystwyth.

Calonnau Cymru/Welsh Hearts had TV wildlife expert Iolo Williams on hand during the presentation who understood the value of the medical kit.

Iolo, who lives in Powys, said: “I am delighted to be involved with this initiative.

“Heart disease is the biggest killer in Wales and I myself lost a dear friend right here on the Dyfi Osprey site due to a heart attack.

“These machines are irrefutable for saving life and lot easier to use than people think, staff and customers are a lot safer now this equipment is on site.”

Nick Aitken, who is the North Wales business and fund-raising manager for Welsh Hearts added: “We are thrilled to present the Dyfi Osprey Project with their new AED (Automated External defibrillator) and applaud the initiative the staff have taken here to also get a bicycle.

“When someone has a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, immediate CPR and Defibrillation can take the chance of survival from 3 per cent up to 49 per cent and having the bicycle now means a casualty can receive lifesaving treatment very quickly.”
