Life-saving equipment is being installed at five sites across the Trawsfynydd area, thanks to a new campaign.

North Wales-based NHS charity Blue Sky is installing defibrillators as part of the ‘Keep the Beats’ campaign to raise awareness of how to deal with cardiac arrest.

One of the aims of the campaign is to provide defibrillators and CPR training in rural communities.

Tomas Hughes is the Community Public Access Defibrillator officer for the North Wales Ambulance Service.

He was part of the team which installed the defibrillators.

He said: “It’s important to spread around where the defibrillators will be placed.

“The more we get in rural areas, the better.”

Mr Hughes also stressed the importance of carrying out CPR as well as the use of defibrillators.

“CPR is vital. When someone has a cardiac arrest, there is only a small window in which to take action. It could be only around six or seven minutes.

Cllr Elfed Powell Roberts said: “We have five installed and we’re hoping for one more. The community has been so good at supporting the project.”

The defibrillators are at J M Hughes & Son, Cambrian Garage, one at Llys, another at Trawsfynydd Holiday village, one at Ysgol Edmwnd Prys and another at the Grapes Hotel, Maentwrog.

Another will be fitted in the kiosk on the corner of Stryd Ardudwy to cover the Stesion area.
