DWYFOR and Meirionnydd residents whose lives have changed following a dementia diagnosis have travelled from all over the region to attend a special meeting.
The DEEP United Meeting – ‘Dementia, Engagement and Empowerment Project’ – helped connect people living with dementia and those who support them with others facing the same difficulties in their locality.
It formed part of a national movement of people living with dementia coming together as independent and impartial groups to support each other.
Over 20 people attended the meeting consisting of people living with dementia, those who support and care for them and professionals working in the field.
Local singing group the Singin Wimmin were also present and entertained with traditional Christmas songs.
Emma Quaeck, DementiaGo project manager and organiser of the meeting said: “It was very encouraging to see so many people come along to the meeting especially as many had travelled from Pwllheli, Dolgellau, Llan Ffestiniog, Tywyn and Porthmadog.
“We had some interesting and informative discussions about what they wanted to get out of the meetings and what support they felt they needed.
“I am confident that this group will grow following this initial meeting and will help support people with dementia and their carers.
“There is a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us.”
The group will meet every two months, the next meeting will be on Monday, 18 February 2019.
