GENEROUS mothers from Gwynedd and Anglesey have clubbed together to buy a new toaster for the maternity unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
The new toaster will allow other new mums to have their traditional post-birth tea and toast.
The Gwynedd and Anglesey Breastfeeding Friends Facebook group sent out a rallying cry after one of its members posted that the maternity ward’s toaster had broken down. And the group, which has almost 1,000 members, took less than 24 hours to raise the £200 needed.
Inspired by the generous show of support, members of the group are now looking at other ways of raising funds for new equipment for the maternity unit.
The fundraising appeal allowed Manon Williams, a trained breastfeeding peer support volunteer, who helps run the Facebook group, to buy a six-slice safety toaster which meets the hospital’s fire safety requirements.
Manon, who has given birth to four children at the maternity unit, said: “It’s almost tradition that new mums get tea and toast when they’ve delivered their babies. When we heard from one of our ladies that the toaster on Llifon ward had broken, we didn’t want women to miss out."
