CEREDIGION council has insisted that an under-threat Penparcau residential home will remain open until a consultation into its future is finished - after campaigners said that residents are being moved out and that the closure of the home had already begun.
A consultation into the closure of the Bodlondeb home, set to end on 25 September, sparked a pressure group being formed in a bid to save it.
The Save Bodlondeb Steering Group protested outside the home last week after it was told that the council had contacted family members to say the home “would close”, with the group saying they were told that “four residents have been relocated” on Thursday, and another two on Friday.
Save Bodlondeb campaigner Dinah Mulholland said: “If this is the case it is further proof of Ceredigion council’s arrogant expediency.
“They appear to be moving the residents out of the home as if they are cattle.
“The families are naturally extremely upset and the rumour that the home is to close before the consultation period is over, if proved true, shows once and for all what a sham this consultation is.”
A Ceredigion council spokesperson told the Cambrian News that Bodlondeb is “operating as normal”, and that the moved residents were a result of “residents’ care needs which are regularly reviewed and monitored” as part of the “on-going care and assessment process”.
