A Llanon family have raised over £3,000 for hospital wards, including one at Aberystwyth’s Bronglais Hospital, to thank them for their youngest son’s treatment.
Nia and Emyr Harries, along with their sons Gruff and Cai, have presented over £1,500 each to Bronglais’ Angharad Ward and Pelican Ward at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff as a thank you for the treatment young Cai received when he was just two months old.
Nia said: “When our youngest son Cai was two months old, he was taken poorly with a temperature and constantly vomiting.
“After spending six nights on Angharad Ward at Bronglais on two separate occasions for various tests and scans, we found out that he had a blockage between the kidney and bladder on the right side.
“It was then decided that Cai needed to be transferred to Pelican Ward, which is the renal and cardiac ward at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff to see the kidney specialist, where we spent two weeks for Cai to undergo more tests and specialised scans.
“Cai then had surgery to put a temporary stent in place and ever since he’s been fine, a bright happy little boy.
“Both hospitals gave us outstanding care and hospitality, bearing in mind we had to leave our eldest son Gruff, who was only two at the time, back at home with grandparents which was ever so hard.
“So, as a thank you to the hospitals for their excellent care, the least we could do was to raise money for both wards to show our appreciation to them and hopefully help other poorly children in the future.”
