A CEREDIGION family has presented over £7,000 to support health services in the Hywel Dda area after wanting to thank staff for their hard work.

Eirwen Evans, of Caerwedros, and her son-in-law Prys Lewis, of Llanafan, raised the huge sum to benefit Bronglais Hospital’s chemotherapy day unit and adult diabetes unit, as well as the breast care unit at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.

Eirwen raised over £5,000 after arranging a coffee morning and concert, with £2,535 going towards the Bronglais chemotherapy unit and the same amount being donated to the breast care unit at Prince Philip Hospital, after she received care at both units following a diagnosis of breast cancer two years ago.

Prys completed the Cardiff Half Marathon in October and decided to donate to the diabetes unit at Bronglais because his wife Teleri has had type 1 diabetes since 2006.

He praised staff at the unit for helping her to have their son Tomos.

Staff members at Bronglais Hospital thanked Eirwen and Prys for their fundraising efforts.

Rhian Preece Jones, a specialist chemotherapy nurse, said: “We are grateful to Eirwen for supporting us and raising a fantastic amount for the chemotherapy day unit at Bronglais Hospital. Thanks for your generosity.”
