BIG-HEARTED Cardigan firefighters have completed a 12.5-mile sponsored walk from Newport to Cardigan to raise money for Newport toddler Eliza Donnelly – wearing their full kits.

Two-year-old Eliza was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer at the beginning of the summer and is currently undergoing treatment.

The event was a huge success thanks to generous donations and sponsorship from the community and the money raised will help Eliza and her family travel to Germany for specialised immune building treatment not available in the UK.

“Taking part in a sponsored walk is not something that the watch normally undertakes, but due to the close link between Eliza’s parents and the crew, we were very keen to do something to help raise money towards the treatment needed,” said Watch Manager John Mitchell.

“The total figure raised will be established shortly, enabling the watch to present a cheque to Eliza’s family as soon as possible.

The firefighters have raised over £4,000 to date.
