ALMOST half of the people who attended a diabetes roadshow in Aberystwyth are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, organisers have warned.
The Know Your Risk Roadshow from Diabetes UK visited Aberystwyth on Monday, 6 June, to raise awareness about Type 2 diabetes and how to reduce the risk of developing.
Out of a total of 219 people who were seen by Diabetes UK representatives, tests showed 102 people were at risk of developing it and were referred to their GPs.
Diabetes UK Cymru’s director, Dai Williams, said there are already around 4,500 people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the county.
He said: “We are very concerned that so many people in Aberystwyth are at risk of Type 2 diabetes.
“This is a serious health condition that, left untreated or poorly managed, can lead to potential devastating complications such as blindness, amputation and stroke.
“The fact that the number of people living with Type 2 diabetes in Ceredigion is increasing each year is a clear sign that urgent action is needed to identify and tackle people’s risk of developing the condition."
