A BUILDING used by 180 social services staff in Aberaeron could become the town’s long-awaited health centre if a deal goes through.
Cllr Alun Williams, the highways Cabinet member, told a county council meeting last week that no agreement to sell Minaeron had been finalised, but there was an offer to buy the building from another public sector organisation which he would not name.
He said: “There is optimism of a sale and the building is very likely to remain in the public sector and that, in my opinion, would be the best outcome.”
Local councillor Elizabeth Evans, who had raised concerns about the impact the sale of the office could have on Aberaeron, said the potential sale to a public sector body had eased those concerns.
She said: “I am now reassured it’s positive for Aberaeron. In this case I’m supportive.”
The interested public sector organisation is believed to be Hywel Dda Health Board, but neither the council nor the health board would confirm that.
After the meeting, Aberaeron town councillor Phill Davies said it would be “good news” for the town if Hywel Dda took over the building.
