A north Ceredigion hospice service charity is hoping to move into its new base and hospice day centre at the start of November.

Hospice at Home Aberystwyth and District Volunteers, which offers support and services for people with life-limiting illness and their carers, has agreed a deal to lease Plas Antaron in Southgate for use as a day hospice and office, with Ceredigion Council granting planning permission for a change of use.

Now the charity has said it is looking forward to moving on with its plans and is already planning a major fundraising drive to be able to buy the building as well as appealing for more volunteers as it looks to increase the services it provides.

Dr Alan Axford, one of the founders of HAHAV, said moving into Plas Antaron would help the charity grow.

He said: “We have now received confirmation that our application for change of use has been successful.

“The legal formalities relating to the lease are almost complete and it is anticipated that contracts will be exchanged before the end of October.

“In the first instance we will be renting the property with a view to purchase within the next three years.

“During 2020, it is our intention to launch a major fundraising campaign to achieve our goal.

“I anticipate that we will be occupying by 1 November and Plas Antaron will then become our administrative centre.

“We will continue to run our charity shop at 14 Pier Street as it is an important source of revenue and well supported by the community.”

Dr Axford said the move would enable further services to offer support for patients and their families.
