YSBYTY Gwynedd is set to benefit from a new £1.680m MRI scanner next year.

NHS Wales is to receive a £17m investment this year in new diagnostic imaging equipment.

Pat Youds, radiology manager at Ysbyty Gwynedd said: “We are delighted to hear confirmation of the funding for the replacement MRI scanner at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

“Technology has moved on a long way since the existing machine was installed, and the new scanner will provide us with clearer, higher resolution images that will assist in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.

“The current machine is used intensively, 12 hours a day every day of the week, and as it got older the systems have required increasing maintenance which has disrupted services.

“The new scanner and supporting infrastructure should enable us to provide a much more reliable service to patients, helping to avoid delays in their treatment.

“We aim to have the new scanner in place during the spring, there will need to be some building works to enable it to be installed, and while this work is carried out, a mobile MRI scanner will be at the hospital so services can be maintained.”
