Wales has today recorded over 60 deaths from coronavirus.

The latest figures, released this lunchtime by Public Health Wales, show that 63 Covid-19-related deaths have been recorded today, with 76 recorded yesterday.

Of those deaths over the past two days, 10 have been recorded in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire with the total death toll in this area standing at 254.

602 people have died in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of North Wales from Covid-19, up seven in the past two days, with Powys not recording any additional deaths, with the total remaining at 36.

3,801 people across Wales have died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Ceredigion has recorded 18 new cases of the virus today with 74 cases in Carmarthenshire and 47 in Pembrokeshire.

Powys has recorded 37 new cases while Gwynedd has recorded 13.

There were 1,718 new cases reported throughout Wales in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic to 163,234.

Dr Eleri Davies, incident director for the outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “The number of positive coronavirus cases remains extremely high in Wales and is cause for serious concern.

“Once again we are sadly reporting a high number of deaths – it should be noted that not all of these deaths occurred during the same 24 hour period but it does show the severity of the situation and acts as a reminder to everyone how important it is to stick to the rules to prevent transmission of the virus.”
