A GOGINAN mother who launched a fundraiser to raise awareness of a condition that left her young daughter needing surgery has thanked supporters after raising over £1,200.
Lara Richards, who completed a marathon walk with her father Wyn Pugh, over the bank holiday weekend, has raised more than £1,200 as part of Flo’s Hippy Hike with the money going toward charity Steps, which helps families affected by DDH, developmental dysplasia of the hip, the condition which saw Lara’s daughter Florence requiring hip surgery and needing to spend around three months in a body cast.
That led to Lara and husband Huw launching a bid to raise awareness about DDH with the condition and the impact it can have on youngsters not particularly well known.
As well as hoping to raise awareness, Lara and Wyn walked over 13 miles from Aberystwyth toward Tregaron, before walking back into Aberystwyth and along the promenade.
Lara said the family were delighted with the support shown by people following the walk on Saturday, 27 May, which was organised to also mark the removal of Flo’s cast and start of the next stage of her recovery.
She said: “We are blown away by people’s generosity and support and are very thankful to the people who turned up to meet us at the lifeboat station.
“I was panicking when I woke up that morning to thunder storms, but luckily the weather cleared up and it stayed dry."
