A NEW dedicated palliative care facility has been officially opened at Llanidloes Hospital after a major funding campaign.

The Garden Rooms, which cost around £150,000, will help provide nursing care at the end of life and has two single en-suite rooms with TV facilities and a reclining bed-chair for relatives, as well as a separate relatives room offering family members a quiet space which includes TV, fridge, microwave and tea-making facilities.

The new facility was provided thanks to funding of £75,000 provided by the League of Friends and a community fundraising appeal raising a further £75,000.

Mary Oliver, the chair of the League of Friends, officially opened the Garden Rooms.

She said: “Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.

“It has been an incredible joint effort to create this beautiful new facility that will offer dignity and peace for patients and families.”

Powys Health Board chief executive Carol Shillabeer said: “This facility truly demonstrates the community spirit, pride and togetherness that is so evident here in Llanidloes and district.

“It is an astounding achievement by everyone involved, and the scale of local fundraising is frankly amazing.
