NO new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Ceredigion or Powys today.

Daily figures released this lunchtime by Public Health Wales show that Ceredigion and Powys both recorded no new cases today (Wednesday, 7 April) with Gwynedd recording six cases and Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire both recording three new cases each.

Across Wales, 82 new cases have been recorded today with no new deaths.

Giving the daily update, Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “We urge anyone over 50 who has not yet received an invite for their vaccination to contact their local health board. “The Welsh Government has announced a series of measures over the coming months which will take Wales into Alert Level 3 by 17 May, subject to public health conditions remaining favourable.”

It has also been announced today that a third coronavirus vaccine is to be rolled-out across Wales with patients in Carmarthenshire becoming the first in the UK to receive it.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorised the Moderna vaccine as safe and effective in January following stringent clinical trials.

Supplies arrived in Wales on Tuesday, 6 April with 5,000 doses being sent to vaccination centres in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.

The Moderna vaccine is a two dose vaccine given at an interval of between four and 12 weeks.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said: “This is another key milestone in our fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. A third vaccine for use in Wales significantly adds to our defences in the face of coronavirus and will help to protect our most vulnerable.”
