Two Ceredigion nurses have been honoured at the Royal College of Nursing in Wales Nurse of the Year awards.
Emma Booth, a core midwife at Bronglais Hospital, and Ginny Chappell, a primary care advanced nurse practitioner who works at Llandysul’s Meddygfa Teifi, were both named as runners-up in categories at the award ceremony on 14 November.
Emma was named runner-up in the mentorship award for her work with both patients and student midwives who she mentors with judges praising her for “epitomising the positive qualities of a caring and effective mentor for student and newly qualified midwives who goes the extra mile to ensure that learners get the most out of their placements”.
Ginny was also named as a runner-up in the Primary Care Nursing Award and was praised for her work, especially in setting up an audit to help with the management of patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Emma and Ginny were praised by Hywel Dda senior staff for their hard work.
Health board chair Bernardine Rees said: “We’re immensely proud of every one of you for your hard work, commitment and achievements, all of which benefit our patients across Hywel Dda.”
Mandy Rayani, the director of nursing, quality and patient experience for the health board, added: “I am incredibly proud of the work our nursing team do every day for our patients and for them to be rewarded at a prestigious national awards ceremony is fantastic.
“The work that Emma and Ginny have done over the years has made an incalculable difference to the health and wellbeing of their patients and I am sure that their success will offer further inspiration for all our nurses and midwives.”
