CEREDIGION has recorded 21 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Daily figures released today by Public Health Wales show that Ceredigion has recorded 21 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the seven-day total for the county up to 73 cases and giving it an infection rate of 100.4 cases per 100,000 population.

The rise in cases comes after Ceredigion County Council warned on Sunday morning that cases in the community are rising and this has been caused by ‘super spreader’ events such as parties and gatherings.

A breakdown of cases shows that the Cardigan and Aberporth area has now recorded 18 cases of Covid-19 in the last seven days, the highest in the county.

These cases mean that the infection rate in the Cardigan and Aberporth area is now 202.7 cases per 100,000 population, the standard measurement of infection across the UK.

Aberystwyth South and the Rheidol, Ystwyth and Caron area have both recorded 13 cases, while Beulah, Troedyraur and Llandysul region has recorded 12 cases in the past week.

Borth and Bontgoch has recorded nine cases, while Aberystwyth North and Aberaeron and Llanrhystud have both recorded three cases.

New Quay and Penbryn and Lampeter and Llanfihangel Ystrad have recorded between zero and two.

Carmarthenshire has again seen a big rise in daily cases with 63 recorded today. These new cases take the weekly total to 350 and give the county an infection rate of 185.4.

Llanfihangel ar Arth and Llanybydder and Trelech, Llangeler and Newcastle Emlyn regions have both recorded 13 cases in the past seven days.

Pembrokeshire has recorded 17 new cases today, taking the weekly total to 85 and giving the county an infection rate of 67.6.

Powys has recorded nine cases today with a weekly total of 119 and an infection rate of 89.9.

Both Machynlleth and Banwy and Llanidloes Blaen Hafren and Llanidloes regions have recorded four cases in the past seven days.

Gwynedd has recorded five cases today, taking the weekly total to 30 cases and an infection rate of 24.1.

Barmouth and Dolgellau and Porthmadog regions have recorded four cases in the past week, which are the highest for the county.

In Ceredigion, the county council has said that the number of contacts for each confirmed case has increased recently and is reiterating calls for people to maintain social distance.

A Ceredigion Council spokesperson said: “Contact tracing has identified that the number of contacts for each positive case has increased, which tells us that people are mixing households and are mixing socially.

“The council has taken action and has served several businesses with improvement and closure notices where they have been breaking coronavirus regulations.

“The council will continue to issue notices where we become aware of concerns or breaches.

“Members of the public are urged to inform us if they have any concerns that a business in Ceredigion does not have adequate measures in place to operate safely.”11 new deaths attributed to Covid-19 have been recorded across Wales today, taking the total since the pandemic began to 2,376.Of those deaths, 100 have been recorded in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire; 510 in the Betsi Cadwaladr region of North Wales and 26 deaths in the Powys Health Board region.
