PRINCESS Anne attended a reception at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Tuesday to celebrate the work done in Wales by volunteers for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
HRH The Princess Royal, who is Royal Patron of the association, met people living with MND and their families/carers and made a speech.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association’s work in Wales faces some unique challenges such as geography, a large country with densely populated urban areas and many isolated communities.
This issue alone creates difficulties for the association’s mission to provide equality of service to all people affected by MND.
The charity’s answer is to create an innovative new role, MND Support Volunteers who while working remotely, using up-to-date communications, will maintain an equitable service to support people with MND, their families and carers.
Alongside this innovation in service provision the event also celebrated the association’s work in Wales.
A spokesperson said: “Working collaboratively our branches and groups, dedicated volunteers, NHS colleagues and association staff have achieved some truly significant steps in care, support, education and campaigning, all the time supported by our creative and energetic fundraisers.”
