WORK on a £14m improvement programme for Ysbyty Gwynedd should start in March, with Welsh Health Secretary Vaughan Gething insisting it will provide a better facility for patients.

Mr Gething visited the hospital to announce that Welsh Government funding will pay for a range of improvements, including new treatment rooms, which he said will help the hospital deal with increased demand and improve the hospital environment.

The funding, which will be made available over the 2017/18 and 2019/20 financial years, will pay for a new single point of entry to the hospital’s emergency department, three triage rooms, a four-bay resuscitation area, eight cubicles and two treatment rooms, chairs in the minor injury unit, an assessment unit which will include a relative waiting room, and new paediatric facilities including three assessment rooms and dedicated waiting rooms.

Mr Gething said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to announce this capital money for Ysbyty Gwynedd, it’ll make a real difference to patients accessing emergency and urgent care in north west Wales."
