A Radio Bronglais trustee has thanked the public after donating a “record-breaking” amount for the charity radio station.
Just over £850 was raised for Radio Bronglais at a public collection at Aberystwyth’s Morrisons store before Christmas.
Gemma Freedman, a trustee and volunteer at the station, said the Radio Bronglais volunteers were keen to thank the public for their support and Morrisons for enabling vital collections to take place.
She said: “This is an opportunity for us to say thank you to people who donated and to say thank you to Morrisons who made it possible for us to be there.
“We raised £851.53, which is exceptional. It was a record-breaking collection for us.
“Ninety-five per cent of it was in coins and what that tells us is that somewhere in the region of 800 people said thank you to us for the service we’ve provided.
“The donations we receive are very important to us. They help to keep us broadcasting and to improve the quality of our service to the patients and staff of the hospital.”
As well as providing radio shows for the hospital, the volunteers are also heavily involved in the station’s fundraising efforts, and Gemma said seeing so many people prepared to donate to support their efforts was a boost for them all.
