LOCAL residents have met with council officials to discuss their concerns over the future of Glantwymyn Health Centre.
At a meeting held at Glantwymyn Community Centre, a group met with county councillor Elwyn Vaughan and representatives of community councils from surrounding villages.
Since Monday, 9 April, surgery hours at Glantwymyn have been reduced from a five-day to a two-and-a-half day service. This has proved to be very inconvenient for patients at the practice and there were concerns that the future of the practice was being jeopardised.
The notice posted on the door to the surgery apologised for the changes in service but did not indicate how long this would go on for.
People at the meeting felt it was unfair services at Glantwymyn had been cut when Machynlleth patients were still receiving a full five day week service. Machynlleth had been the surgery to lose its GPs but is unaffected by the cut-backs in service.
It was felt that these cutbacks were the beginning of running down Glantwymyn practice that would lead to the transfer of all services to Machynlleth practice.
This was particularly concerning as Machynlleth practice is due to move into larger premises in the new development at Bro Ddyfi Hospital in Machynlleth.
