A life-saving scheme to help vulnerable patients receive correct medical care will “continue for the foreseeable future” in Ceredigion.
Over the past few months, Aberystwyth Lions Club and Dr Sion James of Tregaron Surgery and the General Practitioners Cluster for North Ceredigion have worked together to take responsibility for organising the Message In A Bottle scheme.
The MIAB scheme sees distinctive green and white bottles distributed to the homes of vulnerable patients who are prescribed and taking prescription life-saving medicines in their homes on a regular basis.
Brian Wiley, of Aberystwyth Lions Club, said: “Because some of the patients either lived alone or were elderly and infirm, if they were suddenly taken ill or were unconscious, and required immediate care, the personnel attending at their home would be able to easily find the bottle which would contain the patient’s personal details and more importantly, what medication they were taking, so that the correct emergency procedures could be safely administered at an early stage.
“Each bottle contains two adhesive green-cross stickers to attach to the inside of their front door, that immediately signifies to the emergency response officers attending that they are in the scheme, and that details of their current medication will be found in the green MIAB bottle on the top shelf of their refrigerator, which is the designated place to keep it."
