SERVICE users of an “excellent” domiciliary care company near Aberystwyth are “flabbergasted” after it suddenly announced it was to close.

The Cambrian News understands that Gofal Ceredigion Ltd, a community care provider based at Abermad Nursing Home, between Llanfarian and Llanilar, ceased operating last week, leaving elderly and disabled service users uncertain over the future of their home care.

A service user who wished to remain anonymous said: “The company has just notified me that they are stopping providing care.

“I am flabbergasted by the decision. The care provided is excellent.

“I received a letter yesterday saying the reason they are stopping is because of problems with recruitment.”

The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales’ last inspection report of Gofal, which was published in 2015, is largely positive, although concerns were raised over the company’s recruitment processes.

The Cambrian News asked Gofal why it was to cease operating, but director Alison Farley did not wish to comment.

The service user continued: “There were about 10 members of staff, and over the last month that has dwindled to about five.

“There must be at least 10 or so of us who are cared for out in the community. The staff were excellent.

“Apparently social services are going to be contacting us."
