A DOLGELLAU nurse says he is “over the moon” after picking up a top UK-wide award for the work he does in the community.

Out of hundreds of applicants, Steven Evans-Jones was acknowledged for his sterling work as a men’s health ambassador and for assisting patients live a healthier, more fulfilling life, with the RCN Healthcare Assistant Award at the RCNi Nurse Awards 2016.

The healthcare support worker, who was born and raised in Dolgellau, was still “buzzing” days after the awards show held in London last Friday.

“I’m over the moon, I can’t stop smiling,” Steven told the Cambrian News.

“When they announced my name I was just so shocked, I didn’t even move, someone had to tap me on the shoulder and say ‘It’s you!’

“My award goes to all in our amazing nurses and nursing professionals at Dolgellau Community Hospital, I’ve got so many people who have helped me personally and professionally.

“None more so than staff nurse Anne Thomas who nominated me in the first place, we work so well together, we’re like peas in a pod.”
