TWO cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Ceredigion today as Public Health Wales reports that 12 people have died from the virus.
Following two days of recording no new cases of Covid-19, Ceredigion has today reported two cases of the virus in the county, taking the seven-day total to six.
195 new cases have been recorded across Wales today taking the nationwide rate of infection to 43 cases per 100,000 population.
12 new deaths have been reported by Public Health Wales, taking the total number of fatalities in Wales since the pandemic began to 5,424.
First Minister, Mark Drakeford is due to update the nation on coronavirus restrictions on Friday.
Speaking over the weekend, Mr Drakeford hinted that Wales could move from a stay at home rule to a stay local rule and non-essential retail may be allowed to reopen.
Speaking yesterday, Health Minister, Vaughan Gething said that a stay local policy is likely to differ in different parts of Wales, depending on where in Wales you live.
Mr Gething acknowledged that people in rural areas may have to travel further than those in urban areas to access facilities.
He said: “If we do go to stay local, it will be slightly different depending on where you live.”
He also suggested that there could be ‘a few weeks’ of stay-local guidance before Wales could be opened up further.
He told a press briefing: “If, like me, you’re fortunate enough to live in Penarth, then a few miles from Penarth you can do lots of things.
"If I lived in the middle of Powys or Anglesey, within a few miles I might not be able to do them, so we do recognise that if we go to stay local, it will be slightly different depending on where you live.
"Any guidance around that will recognise that."
