HEALTH chiefs were in Meirionnydd last week to officially open Tywyn’s new hospital.
An event to celebrate the ‘opening’ of the new, £5million development took place on Thursday, 12 January.
Patients were first able to access the new facilities last March, with a new 16-bed ward available to the public.
In addition, the former Dysynni Ward has been upgraded to provide outpatient clinics and therapy services, including physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Tthe Minor Injuries Unit has also been redecorated.
Peter Higson, chair of Betsi Cadwaladr, and Vaughan Gething AM, Cabinet Secretary for Health, were on hand to oversee proceedings.
Morgan Vaughan MBE, chairman of the Tywyn and District Memorial Hospital Appeal Fund Committee, spoke on the day, saying it had been long but worthwhile battle to get to this point.
“Today will go down as an important day, not only for myself but for Tywyn and the surrounding areas, for the most important aspects of our lives, health,” he said.
“For nearly 18 years I have pushed for this project and can testify that it only came about after we all worked together as a team."
