Work at Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station has been scaled back after a number of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

Decommissioning company Magnox said it would “limit the potential spread”.

“We are proactively scaling back a number of work activities at our Trawsfynydd site as a result of a small number of employees testing positive for Covid-19 and some of our personnel in the local community being told by NHS Test & Trace to self-isolate,” a Magnox spokesperson said.

“We have also gone further. Working closely with the local authority Environmental Health Officer, we have identified further potential contacts who have been asked not to attend site as a precautionary measure.

“This is in order to limit the potential spread of Covid 19 within the work environment and to support the local community at this time.”

They said the number of staff on site has been gradually reduced since yesterday (Wednesday, 11 November)

“Our Covid 19 secure arrangements remain effective,” the spokesperson said.

“The site will maintain safety, security and environmental compliance activities and progress routine maintenance activities to ensure our decommissioning programme can resume quickly.

“Some key asset management activities will also continue.

“Where possible personnel will work from home and further IT provision will be made available to them.

“Magnox will keep the situation under review, and determine when a resumption of those activities paused should restart with employees returning to site.

“We will monitor the health and wellbeing of the workforce during this period.”
