PLANS for a long-awaited health centre in Tregaron have taken a step nearer reality this week after £1.8m funding was signed off by the Welsh Government.

It means construction work should begin this year.

The Cylch Caron scheme involves a health facility and specialist housing and is seen as a pioneering project between the health board, Ceredigion council and the third sector. It is finally coming to fruition after what AM Elin Jones said was a “tortuous” journey.

Welsh Government Health Minister Mark Drakeford also announced £3m funding to create a replacement facility for Cardigan’s hospital.

Miss Jones said: “We’ve waited a long time for these investments. I remember the campaigns in 2006, when both Cardigan and Tregaron hospitals were under threat.
