BRONGLAIS Hospital’s Ystwyth Ward has been presented with over £1,000 raised by a former midwife at the hospital.

Maureen Jones, who worked as a midwife for 30 years, raised £1,126 at her retirement event and decided she wanted to donate the money to Ystwyth Ward, the hospital’s acute stroke unit.

The donation was raised in memory of Maureen’s mother, who sadly died following a stroke earlier this year.

Members of the stroke unit thanked Maureen for the donation and urged people to be aware of symptoms of a possible stroke, using the act FAST process and look out for; Facial weakness - can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?; Arm Weakness - can the person raise both arms?; Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?; Time to call 999.

Maureen Jones is seen presenting the cheque to consultant physician Dr Phil Jones and members of the stroke team.
